It’s go time

February 11th, 2007

Well it’s Todd Snider day, and this morning is the most pain I’ve been in since I’ve had Strep. I don’t know why, the swelling went down some, each side of my throat was about 3/4 of an inch swelled toward the center, and the big white patches are pretty much gone. I think that’s why it hurts so bad today, nothing but raw tissue under those spots. I would seriously trade this for a bad case of the flu, at least the flu is a dull pain.

Also, the cats ate half my herb garden last night, apparently. No more Tomatos, Jalapenos, or chives, I knew it was only a matter of time, and I’m to sick to replant right now. They ate the biggest ones to, they were already 3 to 4 inches tall. Suprisingly they ate none of the catnip.

But I’m not gonna miss Todd Snider, I probably won’t be able to talk over the noise, or drink anything but water, but I’ll be there. Taking a few folks with me, hopefully they won’t get sick from me.

Oh yeah, by the way, Roger got…..well I’ll let him explain. Roger’s myspace blog post.

Deep Ellum the new West Village

February 10th, 2007

Well, more Deep Ellum news. First, you may ask why so much about Deep Ellum lately, well it’s been a hot topic on the local blogs 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. You may remember the post about Dallas making it difficult for folks to open up new clubs in Deep Ellum, now we may know why. It seems landlords down there a banding together to sell off large chunks of Deep Ellum, to be leveled and rebuilt into a hipper, arts-ier, trendier type of place with cafes, bookstores, and record shops, and tons of lofts. Here’s an excerpt from the unfairpark blog (click here for the full post):

…I’ve heard in recent weeks that many of the Deep Ellum landlords are banding together to pitch their properties as a collective whole to outside developers, one of whom’s situated in the Midwest (Chicago, so “they” say)…

…So, in short, here is what he imagines: Sidewalk cafes. Art galleries. Bookstores. Record shops. And above them all, rows and rows of lofts. (It sounds like a Sesame Street soundstage, kind of.)…

I guess you can’t stop progress, and no one seems to concerned about stopping it. I guess it’s good for the area, but it means less music venues.

Strep

February 10th, 2007

I have strep throat. Actually tonsillitis caused by a strep infection, and I’m in severe pain. The antibiotics don’t seem to be helping so far, I’ve been taking them since Thursday, at this rate I’ll probably have to go back to the doctor Monday. Hopefully I won’t have to get my tonsils removed. At least the fever is gone and only my throat hurts, you know the part where the food goes down, or where you speak from, yeah, the last place you need pain. Three Advil seem to take care of the pain a little, so I’ve been dropping about six of those a day. So lots of pudding and chicken soup. Still gonna make it to Todd Snider on Sunday, just can’t really drink, but that’s no big deal.

Herb Garden.

February 3rd, 2007

I started a herb garden, and it’s sprouting! I got me some basil, rosemary, mint (2 kinds), oregano, chives, catnip (for the cats), lavender (just for the hell of it, good in tea though). Also planted some tomatos and jalapenos. I have a nice sunny window so they should prosper, the herbs will probably remain indoors most of the time, it’s too cold to out them outside now. I just hope I can keep the cats from devouring them, every other plant I’ve tried to grow gets eaten right away. Plus, the dog may eat them if I put them outside, so we’ll see how it goes. I’d post pic of it, but there’s not much there now, maybe when they are bigger.

He’s an alright guy.
