Thanksgiving

November 28th, 2006

Longest four days off ever, at least it seemed like. Which is good I guess, as they usually fly-by. Wednesday night went to meet my friend Matt at a bar for a few hours, hadn’t seen him in a while, not since the last time I saw him at a bar when he got his DWI. Thursday just did the family thing at the house, ate some turkey watched football. Just my parents and brother, my sister and her family went to the Ranchette instead. It’s hard to pull deer hunters away from hunting, even on thanksgiving. But I guess traditionally in my family deer hunting always was a big part of thankgiving. Actually my dad won’t travel right now no matter how much we beg, so that’s why I stayed in town. Friday I got some homebrewing done while everyone else braved the black friday crowds, brewed my oatmeal stout I always brew for the holidays and a christmas porter. Just a basic porter recipe I found that I’m gonna add some spices to later. I ran out of propane on the last fifteen minutes of the porter but kinda just let it sit for the remainder if the boil, we’ll see how it comes out. Friday night went out to Austin Avenue with a few folks for some beer and food, and more food after at waffle house. Wow, I just realized I ate two big meals in one night. Saturday was the GWAR concert, that place was packed, I guess folks needed to let off some thanksgiving steam or get away from the family. People were crowd surfing almost from the back of the venue all the way to the front. I haven’t seen a GWAR show that packed. Let’s see what did they kill this time…. a cop, one guy who had a jesus face on one side and I think osama bin laden on the other, the pope who had a swastika on his hat, and satan who was apparently jewish (he had the star of david around his neck). Needless to say we got covered in fake blood. We were right up front at the end, it was fun. After the concert we went to Big Tony’s in Mckinney to meet up with Roger and Ali, with our bloody clothes still on. drank untill last call then went to the End Zone for more drinks until last cal again. Then we headed to Josh’s where Dan wrecked his car about a block from the house. Trying to show off I guess and tried to spin the car on purpose but ended up smacking the curb with his wheel and busting the axle at the very least. Dan’s wife was throwing a fit, yelling and screaming, which got the cops called. But they were cool and just wanted the car out of the middle of the street, but it wouldn’t even roll, not even with a truck tied to it, so a tow truck had to come and take it to the dealer. So after all this I was tired and hardly moved from the couch on Sunday.

Down in Texas where nothing ever moves.

Looks like Republican Rick Perry won the govenor race down here in Texas, which according to the paper sets him up to be the longest running govenor in “no-term-limit-Texas” history. Democrat Chris Bell would’ve got it except for the fact that his votes were pretty much split up between him and the two independents. Bell asked Kinky to bow out but he refused. I guess Perry is not the worst Republican there is. But Democrats got back the house and possibly the senate which is awesome.

In other news, I had a tooth extracted today, so I’m kindas just bumming around the house in pain. I had a infection that antibiotics couldn’t stop, had some work done to scrape the infection out, didn’t work. So had it extracted, the tooth was pretty much wrecked anyway, root canal and a deep crown. They were worried the tooth would crack if any more work was done and recommended extraction. Somewhere near $2000 to try to save a tooth that we now know couldn’t be saved, all with no insurance, yes! They still recommend an implant to go in place of the tooth, but I can’t afford that now, maybe another $1500. Doubtful.

My vote counted.

I just voted. The lady said today was a longer line when the polls opened then during the presidential election. That’s a good sign, we’ll see what happens.
