Mike’s wedding

October 25th, 2006

Mike and Brennen’s wedding was pretty badass. Ceremony was at the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth with the reception on the roof of the Reata restuarant. After that a few of us went barhopping. Here’s a few photos.

Portland slideshow

October 25th, 2006

Well finally got around to fooling around with making a slideshow. Here it is. I tried uploading it to google video but the resolution was awful, the whole thing was blurry. So I just uploaded it here. It’s in a Windows format, so you need windows to watch it. I don’t know much about converting videos to other formats, so it’s the best I can do for now. It may take a while to download maybe two minutes, but you can save it to your PC if you plan on watching it more than once. That way you don’t have to wait every time. I made it with Windows movie maker, and it’s set to music (the last song is kinda loud, watch out) with titles and credits. Still very basic though. Lots of photos of the same thing but at a slightly different angle, sorry.

Download video.

Guitar Hero II

October 9th, 2006

Demo disc out now. Played it at my bro’s this weekend, about the same as guitar hero I, but all new songs, and a few different play modes, plus Three finger chords. Sweet! Demo has been out for maybe a week, and a few souls have all but mastered expert level, check it out.

Debatin’ in Texas

October 8th, 2006

I caught most of the hour long debate last night for the Texas Governor, the first and only debate with all four candidates. Apparently Strayhorn and Perry declined invites to other debates. It seemed to me that Kinky (independent) and Bell (democrat) were together on most things, even complimenting each other, more like they were working together rather than debating. I’m gonna vote, but don’t consider myself politically active, so here’s some of the things I gathered from the debate.

Kinky Friedman (Independent)
Wants to declare Martial Law in the counties along the border, give the national guard full power.
Legalize casinos in Texas to pay for education and lower property taxes.
Push Bio Diesel, hire Willie Nelson to be the spokesperson.
Push more alternative fuels, wind power, (on a side note this is the first year Texas has had to import it’s own energy)
De-Criminalize the wacky weed
Will openly smoke cigars in office.

Chris Bell (Democrat)
Allow illegal immigrants to buy their way in to citizenship. Learn English, pay back taxes among other things and you can become a citizen.
Opposed to the Trans-Texas corridor and toll roads. (more about that later)

Rick Perry (Republican, and current governor)
Up to the death penalty for repeat sex offenders
re-iterated all the stuff he’s done for Texas.

Carol Keeton Strayhorn (Independent)
Put up a brick wall for lobbyists, no more gifts for politicians
opposed to the Trans Texas corridor.
Life in prison for first time sex offenders
2 years of community college, paid by the state, for all high school graduates.

I’m still undecided, but probably Kinky or Bell. I was transferring homebrew while this was on so I missed a little. Apparently Kinky referred to African Americans as “negros” and some Katrina evacuees living in Texas as “crackheads and thugs” during the debate, which ruffled some feathers.

We have fermentation.

October 2nd, 2006

Brewed two batches of beer this weekend, a Raspberry Wheat and a Pale Ale. We got a few other folks to help out this time, which was easier for me, plus they wanted to learn too. These are supposed to be for Nascar in November. Yes, we are planning on bringing homebrew to Nascar, which is very anti-Nascar in my opinion, the homebrew not the beer. We’re trying to figure out a way to keep the kegs cold longer, other than just putting them in a trash can with ice, ice is expensive at the track and it takes too long to drive off the premesis for the cheaper stuff . We’re thinking of trying to insulate a trash can some way, wrap it in foam possibly. We’ve found a product called the Kegbag for 50 bucks that claims 10 hours of cold beer without ice, longer with ice. We’re also thinking of bringing a commercial keg. If we could find a permament way to keep them cold for more than a day, I’d bring homebrew out more often, like at party’s and such. We also need to rig up a commercial keg tap to accept a CO2 line instead of a pump.
