Back to biking

August 30th, 2006

Today was the first time I’ve rode my bike since I got back from Portland. It’s also the first time I used my new bike computer, just a little pod that clamps to your handle bars, and was suprised by the results. I thought the regular route I take was about three miles, but it was actually six point three miles, wow. I did it in about 34 minutes at a average speed of 11 mph. I could have calibrated the computer wrong, but did it as per the instructions. I’m sure it’s off a little but not much. It even gives you calories burned but I don’t care much about that, plus outside temp, time , max speed, odometer, trip odometer. Pretty cool.

Internet Explorer

August 28th, 2006

It’s been brought to my attention that this site looks screwed up in Internet Explorer. The pics seem to be really big. I don’t know why, but will try to fix soon. If you really want to see it right now, go download Firefox, you’re supposed to have it anyway. All the cool kids use it, you wanna be cool right?

Portland Day 4-5: Oregon wine country

August 23rd, 2006

Went to Oregon wine country and stayed at Tom’s friend Greg’s house, and it was so awesome we stayed two days.

I took many more pics, and I may make a slide show of them all when I get back.

Portland Day 2: Timothy Lake camping.

August 21st, 2006

Camping at the lake with some folks. Crab boil, swimming, sleeping the night in a hammock. Good times.

I have plenty more photos but getting them to tom’s computer is a pain, so I’ll try to put more when I get home or have more time.

Portland or bust!

August 17th, 2006

My bags are packed, and I’m so ready to get the hell out of Dallas. My first whole week off in years, in fact the last time I took a whole week off was the last time I was in Portland, I can’t even remember when that was. Maybe four years. I don’t know how much blogging I’ll do there, but may post some pictures at some point. Later.

Bad timing

August 11th, 2006

I’ve been listening to the Todd Snider CD, and decided today to check out Todd’s website, and he’s playing here on the Friday I fly to Portland. He’s playing in Plano at the Oakpoint Ampitheatre, that’s like bike riding distance from my house, I mean it’s not even that long of a walk. Damn! Oh, well Portland is more worth it. I know many of my readers are from Dallas area, and I highly suggest you go see him, one of the greatest singer songwriters out there. There’s not much info on his site about prices or times, but it’s august 18th at oakpoint ampitheater, It’s near the Quad C spring creek campus. Link to his site. Tell me how it went.

UPDATE: I found more info here

Cafe Roma

August 10th, 2006

I’m stuffed! Went to Cafe Roma tonight, Italian food. I had the spaghetti, pretty self explanatory. I’ve ate here before and everything is good. I didn’t ride my bike though, I drove. It was 104 today, in the shade, couldn’t muster the energy to ride. But, I went and picked up the new Todd Snider CD on the way home, listening to it now, so far so good. I also picked up the new Sick of it all CD. They’re a hardcore band from New York, been around for like 20 years.

Firehouse

August 9th, 2006

Well, kinda a let down today. It was soooo hot today and I was exhausted after work, so I just went to Firehouse subs today. I still rode my bike, but it’s not far away, you could walk if you wanted. I got the Firehouse “hero” sub, roast beef, turkey and ham. Topped it off with some Jalapeno chips. I had to do laundry and I’m just tired today, probably from so much bike riding, so I just went there.

Killer whales in my backyard

August 8th, 2006

So, I got home from work today and did the normal routine, and noticed Blackjack (Roger’s dog) was barking, not to unusual. Well he kept barking and barking, so I went to see what was up. There was a big Shamu pool floatie in the backyard, fully inflated, and Blackjack was scared of it….. or protecting us from it. Who knows how long he was barking. I went to get it and moved it a little and he really freaked out. It was quite humorous. So now I have a big shamu floatie in my house.

Tandoor

August 8th, 2006

Tandoor was the place I ate tonight. Indian food. I had the Boti warp with chicken, basically Chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions wrappped in bread. A little spicy but still good. I also had a mango lassi to drink, very good, reminded me of an orange julius I used to always get at the mall when I lived in Houston. It is in the same shopping center as Samurai sam’s, I think tomorrow I’ll try somewhere closer.

X-Games

August 7th, 2006

I don’t know if any of you watch or keep up with the X-Games, but it was this weekend. It’s gettin’ out of freakin’ control. It’s just a matter of time before someone kills themselves, maybe that’s why I watch? Here’s Travis Pastrana doing a double backflip on his motorcycle.

What they didn’t show was Travis telling his mom before the run, that he wants to do the double flip and whatever happens he loves her and to remember he’s just out there having fun. His mom was sobbing right up until he went for it. Intense. He also said he’ll never try it again.

Samurai Sam’s

August 7th, 2006

This is where I ate tonight, Samurai Sam’s Teriyaki Grill, and turns out it is a chain restaurant. But I never ate there and it’s not fried food. In fact nothing on the menu is fried, either grilled or steamed, even the eggrolls are grilled. So I had the teriyaki bowl with steak, basically a bowl with rice, steamed veggies, and steak covered with teriyaki sauce. It was quite tasty. Quite a few other tasty thing on the menu so I’ll be back. The guy that runs it was pretty cool too. The bike ride wasn’t too bad, maybe a mile or so, they’re located at Legacy and Alma for those who know where I live. Later.

I’ve been slacking.

August 6th, 2006

I’ve been kinda slacking off lately in my bike riding and cooking out efforts. Work has been really busy, we even hired some new help, so I’m pretty much exhausted when I get home. It’s been so hot a humid lately. Fast food is so easy, I’ve been eating it for lunch and dinner for the last few weeks. It’s not good for me and it’s costing me alot, like ten bucks a day. So I’m going to try something new this week. I’m gonna try to eat at places not fast food or corporate chain type places. Also, I’m going to try to eat at places that I can get to on my bike. I have some places in mind, but I’ll save that for later. I’ll try to leave a post every night about my adventures.
