Powerman 5000

July 23rd, 2006

Well, last Sunday we went to see Powerman 5000 ( I know I’m posting this a week later, deal with it) at the gypsy tea room. I didn’t want to go that bad but I always drag Roger to see obscure local bands, and he really wanted to go, so I went along. Jared, Josh, Ali and Kathy also went. PowerMan 5000 had a hit song back in the nineties called This is what it’s like when worlds collide, the lead singer is also Rob Zombie’s brother. It’s got to be a wierd feeling to play huge stadiums, and then play a small club, I mean there weren’t more than 100 people there. They still were good, although a Austin band called Powderburn opened for them and I thought they were much better. I met up with everyone at Jared’s house, and Roger was obviously very drunk (Josh has video, post it on Youtube I dare you). Anyway that was entertaining and annoying at the same time. Roger doesn’t remember any of the ride down there, the concert, or waffle house afterwords. So basically he paid $17 to see a band that he only knows one song from, and only the chorus at that, and he doesn’t even remember. We did score some free Jagermister swag, a shirt and a lanyard keychain thingy. All in all a good time.

I’m not fat!

July 7th, 2006

This may atest to how fat America is getting, but I can’t find a belt small enough to fit me. I’ve only been to Target and Wal-Mart and the majority are 36 waist or bigger, and I know they weren’t just out of my size. I guess if the majority buy the bigger belts why stock the smaller. I guess it’s off to the mall tomorrow. Roger’s sister Julie is getting married Saturday and I need a belt. Maybe I could be like the guy on America’s Funniest Homevideos whose pants fall down at a wedding.

Holiday wrap-up

July 4th, 2006

It’s been a busy weekend, I’ve seen exactly four fireworks shows, whatever happened to only having fireworks on the fourth. Well one show was last weekend, I guess. I was supposed to go down to San Antonio to see my sister, but had to work and wasn’t worthwhile to go. Since we’re busy at work we worked Monday and half a day Tuesday, eventhough my boss took those days off.

Went to see Spector 45 Friday at the Double-wide. My first time to see them and was really impressed, not more than thirty people there at most, lots of young folks. Of course the band is under twenty themselves. Greaser punk is there self-proclaimed genre, sorta a mix of 5o’s rockabilly and 70’s punk. If Buddy Holly and The Ramones had kids that’s what they would sound like.

Saturday, went to a private party in Weatherford at a country club, yeah that’s how we roll, first class. It was actually a birthday party for a guy named “Hippy” and Roger’s girl had tickets because her parents couldn’t go. Hippy is personal friends of thiers. Hippy has a personal limo driver, he got too many DWI’s and the judge said quit drinking or quit driving, he said “well, I ain’t gonna quit drinking”. Also, apparently he tried to buy this country club and invested some money to get it off the ground and profitable, well the deal went south for some reason. Hippy had invested alot of money in it and now the country club has to give him a private birthday party every year. Free food and drinks, pool, live music, it was a blast. Oh, and there’s a fireworks show too. Almost forgot the mechanical bull. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us ^^^Roger. Other highlights; Roger getting his pants pulled down, women with only one hand riding the mechanical bull, and ultimately, us being asked to leave on account of Roger being stupid.

That’s pretty much it, went to Kaboom town Monday to see fireworks, today; fireworks show within sight of my house. I’m all fireworked out.

Border radio

July 4th, 2006

Border radio is fast becoming my favorite internet radio station. Tokyo ninja radio was my favorite, but I think border is better now. Just heard of Border and haven’t turned it off yet. Border is a mix of bluegrass, folk, country (good country, aka. Johnny Cash) rockabilly, psychobilly, blues. Just played Otis Redding and Nekromantix and Johnny cash. Tokyo ninja radio is just rockabilly mostly, but you should check both of them out. I’ve got them bookmarked in winamp. Another favorite of mine is Chronix radio but it’s a metal station.
