Genome owned

January 28th, 2006

Nearly one fifth of you has been patented. This is crazy, first of all I didn’t know you could patent something natural or that already existed. Secondly what incentive does this give a pharmacuetical company to develop a drug for a disease that they’ll have to pay patent rights for. But no need to worry they’ll just pass the cost down to us, and we’ll have to pay more for drugs, I’m sure.

Monster Jam!

January 28th, 2006

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. Grave digger It actually was Sunday when Nicole and I went. Just for the record Nic asked me to take her to Monster jam, which I had no problem with, I’m always up for some senseless destruction. It was a blast, as you could guess big trucks smashed regular cars, Grave Digger won the whole thing, as usual. The whole show is kinda rigged, I mean they don’t get any prize money for winning, they are completely backed by ticket sales, merch sales and sponserships. Until the finals in Vegas, then they go all out. There were a suprising amount of little kids there, I figured 10 year olds, but the majority were under 5, I guess it’s that stage where they like big trucks and tractors. We stuck around for a while, we had to finish our beers, and there was this one kid who had to watch the tractors clean up the arena, his mom was ready to go. I think alot of people think that monster trucks are just a bunch of rednecks concocting trucks, but there is actually alot of technology behind them, with things like 4 wheel steering. I would guess you couldn’t build a monster truck for under one hundred thousand. I guess it’s like other sports, yes monster trucks are a sport, it starts with a few guys trying to best each other, next thing you know there is all these rules and regulations, and every truck is pretty much the same underneath. Similar to Nascar. All in all it was fun, it was funny because Nicole went to the opera with her mom on Thursday, and then Monster trucks on Sunday, what a well cultured girl.

Spam

January 21st, 2006

The only good Spam comes in a can, that’s what I always say. I’ve been getting about 35-40 spam comments on here daily, they’re not getting posted, but are awaiting my moderation in my inbox. It’s probably all done by bots, programs that can figure out how to post comments automatically. So I set-up the Captcha! plugin to help fight it, now if you choose to post a comment you are shown a small image with distorted text in it, and have to type that text in the box before your comment will be posted. The font I put in there is not the most distorted, trying to make it easy on you, but if I get more spam I may make it more distorted. Try it out and let me know if it’s to hard to read or whatever. I don’t think it’s case sensitive, I just tried a test comment and I capitalized the letters that looked like capital letters, and it didn’t work. Just try all lower case first.

Dodge Challenger

January 15th, 2006

Man this is a beautiful car.
Dodge challenger concept

There’s a whole retro thing going on right now in the auto industry, like the mini cooper or the mustang, and you can kinda see the old look in those cars. But the challenger actually looks like an old muscle car that it is. We’ll see how much of it’s style makes it into the production model. Here’s more photos if ya wanna see more.

New Year’s the real story.

January 9th, 2006

Well I was informed by Roger that my last post about New Year’s eve is insufficient, and he is disappointed. So here’s a more accurate description. We got a room at the Country Inn and Suites in Addison, so we could walk to bars and not have to drive. Addison claims they have more restaurants and bars per capita than any other city in the U.S. Roger and I got to the hotel about 1:00 pm but check-in wasn’t until 3, so we go to Chilli’s for food and a few beers, once we finally get checked in we decide to take a nap for a while. Finally wake up about 7 and have a few drinks, we brought two handles of Seagrams and a case of Shiner Light, then Josh and Collin show up and get there own room. We head to the Londoner and it’s dead, so we walk over to Duke’s Original roadhouse and it’s dead, but we stay there cause it’s early still. After a while we head back to the Londoner and it’s filling up and there is a cover now, but you get party favors and champagne at midnight. Some of the party favors are those party poppers that you pull the string and they shoot streamers while making a loud noise, all the while making the whole place smell like gunpowder. Well collin sneaks over to the entrance and grabs a whole box and pours them onto the table, probably about 50, and we pretty much get the party started. Lots of folks start showing up Kelly, Josh, Collin, Dan and Jennifer, Eddie and Karen, and Roger and I. Well since we don’t have to drive I switch from guinness to double jack and cokes. Some how we get on the subject of how Roger shaved his balls earlier and now everybody want to see them, including three girls at the next table, it took some coaxing, but he revealed the goods. Who knew that would be an icebreaker to chatting with the ladies at the next table. The night gets blurry at this point, but I’m just talking to everyone, and having a great time. Then some random ladies come up to me and Collin, and tell us that two of their friends don’t have any one to kiss at midnight, and we have to do it. The bar didn’t get all the champagne out by midnight but Josh had already ordered a round of Royal Fucks for everyone, so at the stroke of midnight we down the shots, Roger begins kissing every girl with in his reach. Collin and I give the kisses to the aforementioned girls, my girl wasn’t into it, just gave me a peck, but we didn’t even know each others names (still don’t). I don’t know how much time has elapsed but next thing I know Roger is walking around the bar with his penis sticking out of his pants, which didn’t really strike me as abnormal, actually. It took for ever to get a drink, I had my own tab, so eventually I just stayed at the bar and started talking to this gal named Vee, and her sister Val. Started buying them drinks, having a great time, she was cute too, so why she was talking to me I don’t know. Eventually the girl next to her did something to get Vee pissed, and they’re kinda being snotty, well Kelly walks up and Vee asks him to spit on her, he does, right in her hair, for a dollar. Nothing happened though, she was pissed but just took it, and walked away, weird, he should of got decked (<<----foreshadowing). At this time I have no idea where everyone is or what they're doing, but eventually they tell me to close the tab and head to the motel. Well, Vee wants to come with, no problem (except in hindsight), but she has to take her sister home first. Call me when you get back.

Stage 2 of the night, the hotel: The party at the hotel was in Josh and Collins room, because they got a smoking room. Apparently, they met a few british girls at the bar who go to Texas Tech, and invited them to the party. Well, Vee calls on the cell and she’s almost there, then Nic beeps in on the other line and she’s on her way over, well I totally forget about Vee. I don’t know how much time had passed but I went down stairs to see if Nic was here yet, when I notice a car just sitting there with the engine running, and it’s Vee, sound asleep. I don’t know what to do, so I go get Roger, who thinks it’s the funniest thing he’s ever seen. Well, I just let her sit there for a while, then finally jump in the car and tell her, in a nutshell, to go home. Nic finally shows up and we countinue partying, Roger at this point is in a third room with a girl, don’t know where she came from, but Roger found her. I decide to go look for him and walk into the hall, and Roger is walking down the hall with said girl, except her bra in on him (I’ll post pics). So they come party awile, then leave for some more alone time. Nic and I go back to our room for a while, and talk and drink, when Kelly bursts in all pissed and flustered. “I’m fucking leaving, fuck those bitches, fuck , fuck, fuck” What happened? “Those british bitches just started beating the crap out of me” What did you do? “I think I knocked one out of her chair, and they unloaded on me” Ok, you cool to drive? “I don’t give a fuck I gotta get out of here, can you guys get my hat back before you leave”. Well, we find out a few days later he said “Princess Di is a cunt” got hit a few times, hard, we’re talking closed fisted by three british chicks. “England Sucks” Crack, Crack , Crack. I’d say he deserved it, but a funny story. After that Nic and I pretty much have the whole room to ourself, Roger is with the girl and, Kelly went home. We stayed up until nine in the morning, actually went for a walk, ended falling asleep in each others arms.

The Morning: We all check out on time, and decide to go to Snuffer’s to eat. Roger’s gal is with him still, and after we eat she leaves and we pile into the Jeep, when Roger exclaimes “You know what’s funny, I don’t even remember her name.” What a guy. We head home after that, and Nic and I pretty much go to sleep, but Josh and Collin keep calling Roger to come drink some more, so he goes over there and drinks bloody marys. We wake up about Five-ish and decide to head to
Cape Buffalo bar, to have some beers and watch the Cowboys game, after that Nic went home and I did also. Great time in all, hope this is a satisfactory description, Roger. I’ll try to get pics up soon.

New Year

January 3rd, 2006

Well the new year is upon us, the last one was pretty good, kinda changed a bunch of shit in my life. New haircut, car, place of residence, job. Still need to change more, but I’m not gonna force it, just gonna let it happen gradually. New career is got to happen sometime, the body shop industry is in shambles, plus it’s back breaking labor, I can’t keep it up for the rest of my working life. I usually make resolutions on new years, but don’t keep many of them. Here’s of list of thing I would like to do this year, not in any particular order.

Switch to all grain brewing
Go to Portland (this will happen)
Build a greasecar
Get a new career
Be more green (conserve more)
Get a guitar
Buy a mountain bike and ride it often
Volunteer
Brew Mead
Brew Wine
Buy more carboys
Explore Dallas more, I’ve been here since ‘85 and I haven’t been to the aquarium or any museums.
Help Nikki be happier
Read more
Eat healthier
Cook my own meals more often
Cut out sodas
Try new foods

New year’s eve was a blast, Roger and I got a hotel room in Addison, and spent most of the night at the Londoner pub. Many more friends joined us at the bar and hotel, plus a few strangers. Spent all of New Year’s day with Nic, watching football and sleeping, not a bad way to start out the year. Not to mention it was 80 degrees on new year’s day, I even took the doors off the Jeep.

Christmas is hectic

January 3rd, 2006

Christmas was good this year, not anything special, but good. Lots of folks came into town this year, and I’m tired. It’s amazing how I have amassed this network of friends across the country, glad you’re all doing well.
