The Reverend
October 30th, 2005Went to see the Reverned Horton Heat Friday night at the Gypsy tea room, probably one of my most favorite bands. I was intending to just see a normal Reverend show, but when we got there we found out the whole show was sponsored by Camel cigarettes, so they had a whole Vegas theme going on. It was called the Sin City tour, and they were on a 20 city tour with various bands. We walk in and they got go-go dancers up on stages, a wedding chapel/altar thing where you could dress up in various props (boas, hats, etc..) and get you pic taken with a girl and elvis if you so desire. All this was in a VIP area in which you could only get into if you had a pack of smokes, plus you get two more packs of smokes (Camel of course) when you sign up. I did it, I’m not a smoker, but I borrowed a pack, and gave the free packs to my friends. They give you this LED lighted neclace thingy to get into the VIP area where they also had free blackjack, and craps, and temporary tattoos (I got a skateboard with a skull and flames). There was one opening band called Super Diamond and they were a Neil Diamond tribute band, and I have to say they kinda rocked. Then the Reverend came on and they rocked as always, Roger was apprehensive about the mosh pit, but I told him the Reverend’s pit was weak, if there was one at all. So, we made our way to the front, and there wasn’t a pit at all. Well, Roger tried to start one during a cover of Johnny cash’s Folsom prison blues. He was unsuccessful. It was a great time though, and all for five bucks, can’t beat that.
